Finding a mold that will make you a great looking statue is only half the battle. Once you do have the mold in the image of that perfect statute you want to create next you need to know some simple facts that will help you process and complete your project to your satisfaction. Most projects really do not take that much time to create and the amount of effort you want to put into your project is entirely up to you. You will find the more effort in your project the better it will be but some concrete statute molds require very little effort to become beautiful pieces of art.
A concrete statute mold works great for outdoor statues when you use hypertufa mixture. Hypertufa made from various aggregates bonded together is an artificial stone. Hypertufa used in making garden ornaments, pots and land forms a light substance in comparison to Terra cotta or concrete. Hypertufa will withstand harsh temperatures that go down to -30C (-20F). Hypertufa is man made but very compatible with most building materials it does not look out of place when placed in the garden. You can easily use your concrete statue molds with a mixture of hypertufa to make a beautiful statute or pot. Tufa pots are suitable for many sorts of plants.
The recipe for making your mixture to pour into your concrete statue mold is a sack of Portland cement, a sack of Peat moss ( the kind that does not have fertilizer added), clean sand (not beach sand), and Perilite or Vermiculite found at a building supply store. Then you should mix 1 part cement, 1 part sand, 1 part and one and one parts peat and Perilite combined by volume with enough water to give a sloppy homogenous mix in order to create the mold for your sculpture. You should pour this into your concrete statute mold packing it firmly by hand. Really, pack this tightly as your casting might end up with air pockets causing it to fall apart. This is a great learning process and sometimes will not come out the way you want it too. You find that you may throw away your first few attempts but gradually you will turn out the perfect piece. Making your sculpture by using a concrete statute mold is an excellent way to preserve it and you will find it is very inexpensive too do.
