Make Sculpture by Using Cement Mold – Cement Statute Molds Made Easy

The creation of cement statute molds is very easy to do and inexpensive. You no longer have to work with concrete that is heavy and bulky hard to manage and costly instead there are new lightweight concretes that you can use. The newer cement is simple to make and very easy to handle in your mold. Cement statute molds are very versatile in that you can use them with cement or plaster.

The recipe to make your lightweight concrete is basically—
• 1 quarts of water
• 2 quarts Portland cement
• 3 quarts of sand (clean sand not beach sand)
• 3 quarts of Perilite or vermiculite not both.

Use a large bucket as your mixing container mixing all the dry ingredients together first. Then you should use a second bucket to add about ¾ of your while slowly mixing in your dry ingredients until you have good workable consistency. Your finished product should look like a brownie mix. After your mixture is completed, pack it firmly into your cement statue mold. The firmer you pack the mixture the less chance you have that it will flake or break off when it has set. It takes approximately two to three hours to set unless you are in a cooler climate. It takes longer in cooler climates about four to five hours for the mixture to set. You will have a very beautiful looking statute.

You may add colorants to the mixture that will enhance the beauty of your statute. You will increase the shade of the statute by adding more colorant. You will find that by adding the colorant to the mixture it makes it a lot easier to create your project. Our cement statute molds are made to accept colorants or the proper paints without you having to add a mold release. You can clean the cement statute molds by using a garden hose and if you like add a mild soap and brush to clean other areas that might require little more care. When you are making a statute there are parts that are hard to reach when you clean that is why it is important for you to brush those areas clean and dry with paper towels.
